The Declaration states that "all animals have dignity" and "no animal shall be abused." Based on this Declaration, we are implementing specific initiatives in animal welfare, disaster relief, and wildlife protection.
The above is clearly stated in the Group's Basic Human Rights Policy, and the entire Group is committed to respecting the dignity of animals.

In Japan, September 20-26 is designated as "Animal Protection Week" every year under the Act on Welfare and Management of Animals (Animal Protection Law). The purpose of this week is to promote understanding and interest in the welfare and proper care of animals among the general public. Every year since 2013, we have been distributing novelties to promote Animal Protection Week in cooperation with the Saitama Prefectural Health and Medical Care Department's Consumer Health Division and Saitama Prefecture's animal welfare promotion staff.

  • Eliminating Euthanasia

Animals that live with us humans give us the power to live just by being with them, and can be called "power plants of the heart." However, many animals without owners are still being killed in Japan. As a company involved with animals, the Anicom Group is working to solve this social issue by implementing various initiatives aimed at eliminating the killing of animals.

Since April 2022, we have been operating an animal shelter "ani TERRACE" at VISON, a resort facility in Taki Town, Mie Prefecture, to connect ownerless dogs and cats with new owners.
Animal shelters are often associated with images of "gloomy," "lonely," and "pitiful," but ani TERRACE aims to be a "bright," "warm," and "happy" facility that is not only for those who are interested in animals, but also for those who are not interested in animals. We aim to be a facility where people who are interested in animals as well as people who are not interested in animals can visit.
In July 2024, we launched the operation of a senior dog home, providing a safe and comfortable environment for elderly dogs.

■Operation of "hugU", a Foster Parent Matching Website

    hugU

We operate "hugU," a foster matching website that connects prospective foster parents with dogs, cats, small animals, and other animals that can no longer be kept due to various reasons.
The raison d'etre of hugU is to create as many opportunities as possible to match animals with prospective foster parents, and to continue to support animals so that they can live happily with their new owners.

    ■Support for Holding Adoption Events

With the hope of helping as many shelter dogs and cats as possible find families, we cooperate with animal welfare groups and other organizations by providing venues for their transfer events. We offer Anicom Insurance branches, veterinary hospitals and laboratories of Anicom Specialty Medical Institute, and other group facilities where people can bring their pets for an ongoing effort to bring happy homes to ownerless dogs and cats. In addition, the "hugU" foster care website serves as a sponsor, and hold ongoing transfer events in cooperation with pet-related vocational schools.

    ■PAW(Project Animal Welfare )

    PAW

Project Animal Welfare (PAW), a project team across Group companies, has been established by employees with a desire to make animals happy, and is engaged in activities that contribute to animal welfare.
Divided into teams for animal welfare, pet disaster prevention, animal care activities, and wildlife protection, the teams are responsible for a wide range of animal welfare activities. For example, PAW engages in enlightenment activities in animal welfare week, operation of animal adoption events, and dissemination of information internally and externally, including events such as disaster prevention seminars.

  • Promotion of Health

The Anicom Group aims to be "an insurance company group that reduces tears and creates smiles."
We believe that the true role of an insurance company is to prevent accidents from occurring, rather than simply paying insurance claims after the accidents. By utilizing the results of genetic testing and gut microbiota measurements, in addition to data on animal breeds, ages, and diseases obtained through our pet insurance business, we aim to prevent illnesses and accidents and bring smiles to pet owners and their pets.

    ■Efforts to Eliminate Genetic Diseases

Since 2017, we have been working to eliminate genetic diseases in pets. Pets are at high risk of genetic diseases as a result of repeated breeding by humans to accentuate their characteristics. However, in today's world of genetic disease research, there are a number of diseases that can be avoided through proper breeding and other means. As a result of our efforts to provide genetic testing and appropriate breeding and sales proposals based on the results to breeders and pet stores we do business with, we are now in a position to eliminate or control certain genetic diseases in Corgis, Shepherds, Shiba Inus, Toy Poodles, and other breeds.
Through these efforts, we aim to promote the distribution of healthy dogs and cats free of genetic diseases, as well as to elucidate unknown genes related to diseases, thereby reducing the number of animals suffering from genetic diseases.

    ■Gut Microbiota Measurement

Animals are unable to communicate their physical ailments in words, and going to a hospital for a checkup and undergoing invasive tests such as blood tests can be very stressful for them. On the other hand, it is important for owners to be aware of abnormalities and they are willing to understand the health status of their pets. For this reason, we offer a gut microbiota measurement service as a health checkup that can be taken by seemingly healthy animals without any burden.
The measurement can be done by mail by owners themselves, and is provided once a year free of charge to Anicom Insurance's policyholders. We also offer free health checkups (blood tests) at veterinary hospitals (for dogs and cats only) according to the measurement results.
